October 2006

"Te bautizo en el nombre del Padre, Hijo y Espiritu Santo." This was the second baptism in the last 3 months. In August, 6 adults were baptized and on the 8th of October, 2 adults and 2 children were baptized. These are exciting times for the Vida Nueva Church. Our services are attracting more and more people and the Holy Spirit is moving strongly in our church community. Many of our members are from the state of Oaxaca, Mexico. Many people come from the same villages and families to settle in this area. God uses these family connections as natural bridges to bring the Good News to people living in bondage. Nothing stokes my fire more than seeing people leave darkness and come into God's wonderful light.

Many people ask me about Brother Alfonso. Yes, he is still in the Federal Detention Center in Seattle. We are waiting for his sentencing that will take place Nov. 2. Our church never ceases to pray for his release. God loves this brother and we know that He works all things out for Alfonos's good. Keep praying that Alfonso will soon be united to his family and to God's family in Mt. Vernon. Meanwhile, God is using this man for His purposes in the detention center.

"Pastor, can I start a Bible Study up at my house on Fridays?" Wow, that impresses me. This was the request of one of the men baptized in August. Efrian is rising to leadership position in our church. He is so eager to serve the Lord. He has brought many Christian Spanish speaking videos to hand out. His car is full of Christian music CD's that he also shares with others. Last month we had a prayer vigil that lasted 6 hours. And now Efrian is hounding me for another. Praise God for Efrian and pray that God's Spirit will lead this man. Efrian's brother Edgar and his wife Flor are also very on fire for the Lord. They do a lot of visits and encourage the believers to keep first things first. Praise God for Edgar and Flor!

The Lynden church, Amor Viviente is going a bit slower. Several people have left the are and it is harder to find people who are of a more permanent nature. We plan on having worship services starting later this month. Our facility is the Youth House on the property of 3rd CRC of Lynden. Third CRC has been very generous and helpful. Our Sunday School teachers are in place and we are waiting for the finishing of the inside work of our church building. Please keep all these things in your prayers. We also greatly appreciate your financial support. Is there any chance of giving something extra for the Thanksgiving Day offering?

En Cristo Jesus, Jose Strong
